How casino bonuses actually work, from the code box to the cash-out

A bonus is a contract with a few moving parts. Once you can see them, any offer, at any casino, takes two minutes to judge.

Short answer: a deposit bonus adds casino money to your balance in proportion to what you pay in, and asks you to stake a set total, the wagering, before winnings from it can be withdrawn. Refunds and cashback work the other way, returning part of a lost deposit. At Casino Purple the welcome match is 100% up to €2,500 with PURPLE100; the wagering multiple is on the casino's promotions page.

Bonus terms read like legal text because they partly are. Underneath, there are only five ideas: the match, the cap, the wagering, the game weighting and the withdrawal rules. Learn those, and the difference between a generous offer and a flashy one becomes obvious. We use Casino Purple's own offers as the worked examples, since we have read them closely.

What is a deposit match?

The casino adds a percentage of your deposit as bonus money. A 100% match doubles it: €40 in, €80 to play. A 50% match, like Casino Purple's Friday Happy Hour, adds half: €40 becomes €60. The percentage is the number in the headline and the least important number in the deal, because a bigger match also means more money attached to wagering.

What does "up to" mean?

It is the maximum bonus, not a rule about the deposit. Casino Purple's welcome match is 100% up to €2,500, so the maximum bonus is reached with a €2,500 deposit. The Monday reload is 20% up to €100, which needs a €500 deposit to max out. Below the cap, the percentage applies in full.

How does wagering work?

Wagering is the total amount you need to stake, while the bonus is active, before bonus winnings turn into withdrawable cash. It is usually written as a multiple, for example "30x the bonus". We do not quote Casino Purple's figure here, because the promotions page is the version that counts on the day you deposit. To show the maths, take a made-up 30x on the bonus:

First deposit100% bonusWagering at an illustrative 30xAverage cost at 96.5% RTP
€20€20€600about €21
€50€50€1,500about €52.50
€100€100€3,000about €105

The last column is the useful one. It shows the average amount the house edge takes while you work through the wagering. When it is close to the size of the bonus itself, the offer is mainly buying you playing time, not profit. That is not a bad thing if playing time is what you want. It is also why the smaller 100% match at Casino Purple is attractive to people who like to cash out early: less bonus means less to wager. And it is why game choice matters so much; the cost column above falls when you play higher-return games, compared on high RTP slots.

Do all games count the same towards wagering?

Often not. Many casinos count slots in full and table or live games at a reduced rate, or not at all. Some exclude particular titles. This "game weighting" lives in the terms, and it can turn an easy requirement into a slow one if you prefer roulette to reels. Check it on the promotions page before choosing your first game with bonus money.

How are refunds and cashback different from a match?

A match adds money up front, with wagering. A refund gives some back after a loss. Casino Purple uses both. The welcome package lists a 35% cash refund if the first deposit is lost; the daily offer refunds 35% of a deposit when the balance drops to zero, credited 24 hours later; and Friday deposits carry a 30% refund alongside the 50% match. On €100 lost, a 35% refund is €35 back. For a cautious player that safety net can be worth more than a bigger match, because it works on the evenings that go badly. Our page on Casino Purple free spins compares cashback with spin offers directly.

What stops a bonus from being withdrawn?

Unfinished wagering

The most common reason. Bonus winnings stay locked until the requirement is met, and the cashier may not shout about it.

Verification

Separate from any bonus, Casino Purple checks identity once before the first payout: photo ID, proof of address and proof of the payment method. Sending them early means a finished playthrough turns into a withdrawal without a pause. Big spenders can read how the €10,000-a-month VIP threshold works on Casino Purple VIP.

Missing documents

The first withdrawal waits for an identity check. Upload ID, proof of address and proof of payment early.

Is it ever better to skip the bonus?

Yes. If you plan a short session, mostly play games that weigh low, or simply want your balance to be your own, deposit without the code. You still get the no-code offers: daily cashback and Friday Happy Hour. The full schedule is on our Casino Purple promotions page, and sign-up and withdrawal help lives on our sister guide casinopurple-uk.uk.

Bonus questions

What does a 100% bonus mean?

The casino matches your deposit one for one. At Casino Purple, €50 deposited with PURPLE100 gives €100 to play, up to a €2,500 bonus.

What is wagering?

The total you must stake while the bonus is active before its winnings can be withdrawn, usually written as a multiple of the bonus or of the deposit plus bonus.

Is cashback subject to wagering?

Casino Purple's promotions page describes its welcome refund as cash money. Check the current terms for the daily and Friday refunds.

Can I refuse a bonus?

Yes. Deposit without entering the code and the balance is simply yours.

Why is a smaller match sometimes better?

Less bonus means less to wager, so you reach a withdrawal sooner, on average at a lower cost.
